Around 11,000 people were evacuated in Germany's capital Berlin while police deactivated a Second World War bomb weighing 250 kg, the media reported on Monday.

Police said the American bomb, discovered near the Jewish Museum, was deactivated after two detonators were disconnected on Sunday, Efe news reported.

Several metro and bus lines were also temporarily suspended while the operation was underway.

Meanwhile, some 5,000 residents of Koblenz were evacuated while authorities deactivated another bomb, found during construction work at a school, buried at a depth of 4 metres.

Such operations are not uncommon in Germany; the biggest evacuation was in Koblenz in 2011 when around 45,000 people were forced out of their homes after an undetonated bomb was discovered in the vicinity.
