The Senegalese government on Sunday opened a judicial investigation into the causes of a stampede at a football stadium in capital Dakar that killed at least nine people and injured dozens of others.
The state wanted to clarify what happened and identify those responsible for the incident that took place on Saturday evening, according to government spokesman Seydou Gueye, reports Efe.
A wall collapsed and a panic broke out among the fans during a match between two teams at Stade Demba Diop here.
The government announced the suspension of all sports competitions during the legislative elections, scheduled for July 30.
In addition, political parties have also suspended all campaigning events planned for Sunday as a sign of respect to those who died.
