A benchmark index for Indian equities, the sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange, closed 214.62 points, or 0.79 percent, down on Thursday.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also closed in the red -- down 58.25 points or 0.71 percent -- at 8,181.50 points.
The 30-scrip Sensex, which opened at 27,242.05 points, closed at 27,011.31 points (provisionally at 3.59 p.m.) -- down 214.62 points, or 0.79 percent, over the previous day's close at 27,225.93 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 27,242.05 points and a low of 26,897.54 points in the intra-day trade.
