On the day derivatives for May expired, a benchmark index of the Indian equities markets provisionally closed with healthy gains during the trade session on Thursday.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) provisionally closed more than 198 points up during the day's trade session.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also provisionally closed the day's trade with gains. It rose by 52.60 points or 0.63 percent at 8,413.45 points.
The Sensex of the S&P BSE, which opened at 27,660.22 points, closed at 27,928.10 points (at 3.30 p.m.), up 198.43 points or 0.72 percent from the previous day's close at 27,729.67 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 27,962.21 points and a low of 27,635.76 points in the intra-day trade.
