A benchmark index of the Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex), was trading 130.46 points or 0.49 percent down during the afternoon session on Tuesday.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 43.65 points or 0.54 percent down at 7,970.25 points.
The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 26,586.86 points, was trading at 26,456.09 points (at 1.12 p.m.) in the afternoon session, down 130.46 points or 0.49 percent from the previous day's close at 26,586.55 points.
The Sensex has touched a high of 26,597.28 points and a low of 26,433.84 points in the intra-day trade so far.
During the intra-day trade so far, stocks like realty, oil and gas, capital goods and banking were under heavy pressure.
The S&P BSE realty index plunged by 1.14 percent, oil and gas index went down by 1.01 percent, capital goods index dropped by 0.77 percent and banking index slipped by 0.64 percent.
