A benchmark index of Indian equities markets was trading flat in the opening session of trade Tuesday, even as information technology (IT), entertainment, media, technology (TECK) stocks gained.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,244.98 points, was ruling at 27,172.47 points, 34.27 points or 0.13 points down from its previous day's close at 27,206.74 points.
Sensex touched a high of 27,256.87 points and a low of 27165.09 points.
The BSE IT index was up 119.73 points, followed by the TECK index up 41.96 points and consumer durables up 7.60 points.
However, the capital goods index was down 105.46 points, metal index was lower by 98.10 points, automobile index fell 65.82 points and oil and gas index plummeted by 41.93 points.
The wider 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was ruling 0.08 percent or 6.25 points down at 8,140.05 points.
