Union Labour and Employment Minister Santosh Gangwar on Tuesday wrote to all states asking them to establish tripartite mechanisms at their level for continuous engagement with social partners while formulating and implementing labour policies, an official statement said.
"Gangwar has written to Chief Ministers of all states to establish tripartite mechanisms comprising worker groups, employer groups and government groups at state level for continuous engagement with social partners while formulating and implementing labour policies.." said the Labour and Employment Ministry statement.
It also said that this came "...keeping in view the constitutional mandate of dual responsibility of state and Central governments on labour under concurrent list of Indian constitution and also India's Commitment to international obligation under ILO Convention C-144".
Gangwar also cited that the tripartite mechanism of Indian Labour Conference & Standing Labour Committee at central level has been working effectively since 1942 in formulating and implementing labour policies by the Central government.
