The Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan needs to be settled "for peace and development in South Asia", a senior Pakistani official has said.
Murtaza Javed Abbasi, the acting National Assembly Speaker, was speaking at the global parliamentary summit at the UN headquarters here.
Radio Pakistan quoted him as saying that the time had come to let Kashmiri people exercise self-determination.
Tensions between India and Pakistan have been rising on the Jammu and Kashmir border in recent times. Pakistan controls the northern third of the state and India the southern two-third.
