Colombia's Giovanni Moreno has signed a new two-year deal with Shanghai Shenhua, the Chinese football club officials told EFE on Tuesday.

The sources said that the Colombian international will be playing for the Chinese Super League team until the end of 2019 season after extending his contract, while the future of Argentina's Carlos Tevez there remains uncertain.

The attacking midfielder joined Shenhua in 2012 and has scored 56 goals in 161 appearances for the club, including 50 goals in the Super League, which makes Moreno the all-time highest scorer for his team in the competition.

Despite having won the Chinese FA Cup over the weekend, Shenhua has not had the best of seasons in 2017 as it has finished 11th out of 16 teams in the Super League.

The club started the season with the aim of ending the hegemony of Guangzhou Evergrande, which has won every Super League season since 2011, and signed Tevez, who reportedly became the highest paid player in the world.

However, the former Boca Juniors forward has scored only four goals and missed a large part of the season with injuries or due to a tactical decision, and as a result his future with the club remains uncertain.

Club officials told EFE that Tevez had returned to Argentina a few days ago and the club would have to speak with his agent to see if his remaining at the club was feasible.

Tevez signed a two-year deal with the club in 2016, but has struggled to adapt in China and has received criticism from fans for his weight.

Despite his troubles, in a recent interview with the Chinese media, club manager Wu Jingui said that Tevez has made great contribution and is different from what he is portrayed to be because he is hardworking and trains twice a day.

Wu, who had earlier benched Tevez for several games until he lost weight, said that he is a great player technically.
