Sharmila takes pole at Jaypee Greens

Sharmila Nicollet jumped into the lead with a five under 67 on the second day of the Rs. 6 lakh 15th leg of the Women's Professional Golf Tour here on Thursday.

Nicollet was in stellar form at the Jaypee Greens course here, carding nine birdies, which is a record for a single day in the current season.

The Bengaluru golfer, who is eyeing her first title of the year, registered a two-round total of 141 to lead second placed Amandeep Drall by a single stroke.

Amandeep returned a score of two under 70 for a total of 142 after the second round.

Overnight leader Neha Tripathi meanwhile, slipped to the third spot with an effort of three over 75. She is trailing Amandeep by three strokes.

Kapurthala's Gursimar Badwal finished the second round with a level par score to take the fourth position.

Sharmila was off to a mixed start with birdies on the first, fourth, seventh and eighth holes, along with bogies on the third, fifth and sixth.

She did much better on the back nine, with a flurry of birdies on the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 16th holes with a lone blemish on the 10th.

Amandeep started the pursuit of her third title of the year with a bang, carding three birdies on the front nine while dropping a shot on the second.

She started her back nine with a double bogey on the 10th but recovered with birdies on the 13th, 14th and 16th.

The Panchkula-based rookie could have ended the day at the joint top spot, but was let down by a bogey on the 17th.

Neha however, struggled to get going on the day. The Kolkata golfer's round consisted of birdies on the first, ninth and 13th, along with bogies on the second, third, 10th,11th, 14th and 18th.

Veteran Smriti Mehra, who started the day in the second position, could not replicate her good form and returned a score of four over 76. She carded three birdies and five bogies to be placed fifth with a total of 147.

Amateur Diksha Dagar is in the sixth position with a total of 151. She played a birdie-less round with bogies on the second, sixth, seventh, 15th and 16th.

Order of Merit leader Vani Kapoor also had an indifferent day and was at the seventh position with a total of 152. Her error-prone round consisted of two birdies against six bogies and a double bogey.
