Sheena Bora case: Court rejects Indrani Mukerjea's medical bail plea

A special CBI court here n Friday rejected the bail plea on health grounds filed by former media baron Indrani Mukerjea - one of the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case.

Refusing bail, Special Judge H.S. Mahajan however permitted her to take treatment in a private hospital.

In her bail application, Indrani said she was suffering from chronic small vessels inchemic changes which could lead to a life-threatening brain stroke as oxygen supply to the brain may be interrupted.

On account of this condition, she sufferes frequent bouts of blackouts and it takes around an hour to reach a hospital from the Byculla Jail where she is currently lodged in judicial custody.

Strongly opposing the bail plea, Central Bureau of Investigation lawyer Bharat Badami said when she was hospitalised in October 2015, 12 different doctors had examined her and she was advised against eating spicy food, and to rest and sleep properly.

Accordingly, she is being provided with a protein-rich diet including dry fruits, fruits, milk and boiled vegetables and her present health condition is normal, Badami pointed out.

Besides allowing her to take private treatment in a private hospital with private medicos, Special Judge Mahajan said the court had given direction on her diet. A team of medicos would examine her every quarter and submit its report directly to the court.

Indrani, along with her husband Peter Mukerjea, ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and former driver Shyamwar Rai are accused in the murder case of her daughter Sheena Bora in 2012.

While Peter was arrested on November 19, Indrani, Khanna and Rai were arrested in August 2015 and all continue in custody since.

The CBI has said that Sheena, 24, the daughter of Indrani from an earlier liaison, was murdered, her body burnt and the remains disposed off in the forests near Raigad, around 90 kms south of Mumbai, on April 24, 2012.

Among various angles, the CBI is investigating huge financial transactions and investments done through a foreign bank account and the individual roles of all the accused in the sensational high-profile murder case.
