Shift Series brings focus on inspirational women's stories

Women achievers and activists from various walks of life shared their experiences and inspirational stories on Saturday during the "Engendered dialogues - Women changing the world" event here.

The event saw inspirational monologues and dialogues from a number of women achievers, including gender rights champion and entrepreneur Sapna Bhavnani, internationally acclaimed producer, director and actor Mahabanoo Mody-Kotwal, environment activist Jamuna Tudu, social activist Robin Chaurasiya and actress Pooja Bedi, among others.

During the event, the speakers shared their personal journeys covering range of issues surviving sexual assault to domestic violence to fighting the forest mafia.

The event was organised by the Shift Series in association with the NITI Aayog and tGELF (The Global Education and Leadership Foundation) as part of the road to "Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES)", an important Indo-US initiative to be held later this month.

While Jamuna Tudu shared her experience of how she, along with other women, fought the forest mafia to save the forest land around her village, author Advaita Kala talked about gender discrimination in the Indian film industry.

Actress Pooja Bedi shared her experiences of donning multiple hats ranging from a movie star to a single mother, and to a columnist. Sapna Bhavnani, through a theatre performance, shared some of the darkest moments of her life from her first sexual experience to being sexually violated in a foreign country.

It was the first of a series of events to highlight the role that women play in changing the world.

"A curated experience, these events will give rise to conversations around the central theme of women overcoming limitations, going on to actualize their unlimited potential and taking their place in the new world order," a statement said.

According to Shift Series team, no topic concerning women empowerment and upliftment would be left untouched in the series of events.
