The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday confirmed the approval of Lendl Simmons as a replacement for the injured Andre Fletcher in the West Indies squad for the ongoing World T20 tournament.
Fletcher pulled a right hamstring during the match against Afghanistan in Nagpur on Sunday and has been ruled out of further participation in the tournament, an ICC statement said.
The 31-year-old Simmons has represented the West Indies in eight Tests, 68 One-Days and 34 T20 Internationals. In the shortest version of the game, he has scored 761 runs at a strike-rate of just under 114.
Simmons was a member of the West Indies side which won the World Twenty20 in 2012 and played his last T20I against South Africa in Durban in January 2015.
The West Indies will take on host and 2007 champion India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday in a semi-final.
