Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday mourned the death of VHP leader Ashok Singhal, calling it "a deep personal loss" and describing him as "an institution in himself".
"Ashok Singhalji was the force behind several noble deeds and social work, which benefited the poor. He is an inspiration for generations," Modi tweeted.
"I was always fortunate to receive Ashokji's blessings and guidance. My condolences to his family and countless supporters," he said.
Singhal, 89, one of the most prominent leaders of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, passed away on Tuesday afternoon at a hospital in Gurgaon after being admitted due to heart and kidney problems.
