Six Border Security Force (BSF) troopers suffered injuries in field firing here on Friday afternoon, an official said.
The incident occurred around 12.50 p.m. during the practice firing of shells at Sitagarh firing range in Hazaribagh district.
"Our troopers were in the practice fire of 51 m.m. mortar at Sitagarh field firing range when one of the shells exploded after a shortfall. The shell did not take the flight of desired distance, resulting in injuries to six BSF personnel," BSF spokesperson Shubhendu Bhardwaj told IANS.
The officer said that the injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.
He explained that the desired distance of a shell was estimated at 800-900 metres, but it accidentally fell at a distance of around 12 metres.
