Six Gurgaon students snatch car for pleasure trip, nabbed

Six Gurgaon students were arrested for snatching a car and going on a fun tour to Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh to enjoy the snowfall, police said Monday.

They escaped with the vehicle Jan 15 and were arrested Jan 17.

The arrested were identified as Navdeep alias Sonu, Balvinder alias Sajjan (from Punjab's Hoshiarpur), Gaurav (Kanina in Mahendergarh, Haryana) and Irfan Khan (all now residents of Rajiv Nagar in Gurgaon), Deepanshu (from Bhiwani, Haryana) who is now staying in Patel Nagar, and Ajay (from Karnal) who lives in Chakarpur of Gurgaon.

"Of the six, two are in engineering second year and two pursuing hotel management," Crime Branch unit 1 chief Yashwant Singh told IANS.

Cab driver Balkishan, working here, received a message Jan 15 midnight to pick up a woman from Mahipalpur in Delhi and drop her in sector 31, Gurgaon.

When Balkishan reached Gurgaon's sector 31 market with the woman, four accused on a scooter (one of them known to the woman), thrashed the driver (Balkishan) and escaped with his vehicle and the woman.

"They dropped the woman in Gurgaon and after calling other two friends, left for the trip. The accused were arrested from Mohali in Punjab Jan 17," the officer said.

He added: "We are grilling them on remand. They will be produced in court Tuesday."

The scooter used in the crime was stolen from sector 5 for snatching the car. However, the involvement of the woman in the crime could not be established.
