Six women were rescued and five men were arrested following a raid at a dance bar operating in the capital, said police Tuesday.
Police Inspector Rajendra Prabhudesai said that the dance bar had been operating in the city for some weeks.
"Six women have been rescued while five persons have been arrested. The women were made to dance in the hotel's dining area," Prabhudesai said.
The raid comes more than a week after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's assurance in his Aug 15 address that his government was against dance bars.
Before the chief minister's assurance, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was caught in a bind after party vice president Wilfred Mesquita had given a thumbs up to dance bars in the state.
