Skrillex mesmerises capital's EDM fans

A swarm of die-hard music lovers thronged the dusty, sweaty HUDA Grounds here to witness global music artist Sonny John Moore, popularly known as Skrillex, perform an enigmatic set for concert-goers.

Making his Indian debut, Skrillex who has been touring the country for the Vh1 Supersonic Arcade, was seen playing some of his popular numbers on Sunday for over five thousand fans at the venue.

Talking about the turn-up at the event, Jaideep Singh, senior vice president and head, Live Viacom 18 told IANS: "It was more than what we had expected...and that was great."

The show began with city-based electronic artist Nucleya, who played some of his famous numbers like "Akkad bakkad" and "Laung gawacha" for over an hour on the turntables, which gave an adrenaline rush to the fans.

Up next was Mija, who is known as the opener for Skrillex, kept the audiences engaged by playing some of her hit tunes. Her performance was accompanied by stunning visual effects, which was beamed on the projecter and lightings.

Moments before Skrillex, who has already toured Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mumbai for his performance, made his entry on the stage, popular DJ and VJ Nikhil Chinapa, who is known for being an important part of the event, addressed the crowd.

"Dance music is like a family... and this family believes in four principles - peace, love, unity and respect. Respect all and respect the ladies here at the event," Chinapa said.

After Chinapa's announcement, Skrillex made his entry on the stage in his trademark all-black ensemble and nerd glasses. He greeted the crowd with "Namaste".

As soon as the artist started playing his numbers, a dekko of colourful laser light, fog and fireworks covered the entire ground.

He played some of his hits like "Where are you now", "Break a sweat", "How deep is your love" and "Cherry monster".

The crowd was full into the performance and even sang along to the lyrics, some of which were even displayed on the big screen.

Skrillex ended his show on a high, with the fans asking for more. With the success of his maiden gig in Delhi/NCR, capital's music lovers will hope for his return in the foreseeable future.
