A young man involved in nearly 200 cases of snatchings in Delhi and elsewhere has been arrested and a pistol and two cartridges seized from him, police said on Friday.
Vikram, 26, fired shots at the police but was overpowered near Mangolpuri area in Rohini in north Delhi on Tuesday evening, Deputy Commissioner of Police Rishi Pal said. Four mobile phones and three motorcycles were also recovered from him.
"Nearly 120 cases of chain snatchings in different districts of Delhi and Haryana have been worked out with his arrest," Pal added.
The DCP said a special police team arrested Vikram in the wake of a series of robberies by bike-borne assailants.
Police said Vikram, a Delhi resident, was arrested for the first time in a chain snatching case in 2005, adding that he led a lavish lifestyle and used to change vehicles and hideouts frequently to evade arrest.
