India's Alex Solanki stunned boys' second seed Wei De Lin (Chinese Taipei) 4-6, 7-6(1), 6-2 in round one of the ONGC ITF junior tennis here Tuesday.
Lin did justice to his billing by grabbing the opening set in style at the Dakshin Kalikata Sansad, while the second set was stretched to the tie breaker as the lower ranked Solanki refused to give up and eventually won 7-1.
In the decider, it was all Solanki as he played some outstanding long points - most of which he won. Solanki won the final set by a convincing 6-2.
Indian girls had a bright day as Karman Kaur Thandi, Vanshikha Sawhney and Ojasvinee Singh entered the pre-quarter finals.
But other qualifiers from India in the boys' section had a bad day as Amartanth Arora, Balaji Lakshmanan and Raghav Jaisinghani crashed out without even managing to pull off a set.
