Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday condoled the death of Kanubhai Ramdas Gandhi, a grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.
In a statement here, she said she remembered Kanubhai Ramdas Gandhi as one of the last few links to the historical 'Dandi March' in 1930.
"Kanubhai, as a little boy, earned the distinction as the stick-bearer of the Mahatma during the Salt Satyagraha," she said.
On behalf of million of Congress workers, leaders and those who participated in the freedom movement, Gandhi paid rich homage to the great soul who dedicated his childhood and youth to the freedom struggle.
Kanubhai was photographed leading Mahatma Gandhi by holding one end of his walking stick as the Mahatma led the Salt Satyagraha at Dandi in Gujarat in March-April 1930.
Kanubahi died in a private hospital in Surat on Monday evening. He was admitted in the hospital since October 22 after he suffered a heart attack and brain haemorrhage which left half of his body paralysed.
