Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday asked the food and civil supplies department to strengthen the monitoring mechanism to check the rising prices of essential commodities across the state.
The Chief Minister's instruction came at his meeting with the heads of all the departments in Assam capital complex at Dispur on Friday.
He asked the department to strictly monitor and ensure that no one inflates the prices of essential commodities and that the people of the state, particularly those living in the tea gardens and riverine areas, do not have to bear the additional burden.
"The department of food and civil supplies should frequently meet the wholesalers and retailers, and involve people in the process of price fixing so that there is no apprehension in the minds of the people," Sonowal said.
The Chief Minister asked the department to ensure that the wholesalers and retailers do not impose an additional charge for transportation of foodstuff.
"The people should also be informed about the prices of the same foodstuff in different state capitals. These practices will win the trust of the people of the state," he said.
