South Africa trail India by 173 runs Sports/Cricket/Sports

The first day's play of the first cricket Test between India and South Africa ended with the visitors trailing the hosts by 173 runs at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium here on Thursday.

South Africa dismissed India for a meagre 201 with Murali Vijay top scoring with 75 while part-time Proteas spinner Dean Elgar took 4/22.

In reply, South Africa batted for 20 overs to score 28/2. Elgar (13 not out) and captain Hashim Amla (9 not out) were at the crease at stumps.

Spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were the wicket-takers for India.
