A South Korean national is being monitored in Slovakia after showing symptoms of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), a media report said on Monday.

"No sample tested positive," Slovak health ministry spokesperson Peter Bubla said on Sunday.

Additional samples will be sent for tests, Xinhua reported.

The 39-year-old man from South Korea arrived in Slovakia on June 3, reportedly suffering from diarrhoea, high fever and skin lesion.

He was transported from Zilina city to a specialised facility at Bratislava University Hospital, on Saturday, where he is being kept in isolation.

As of Monday, the South Korean health ministry reported five new cases of MERS-infected people, taking the total to 150 since May 20.

The toll has risen to 16.
