Spain's Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment, Isabel Garcia Tejerina confirmed that the Spanish government would send the Paris agreement to be ratified in parliament.

Tejerina explained in a press conference on Friday that "the battle against climate change is a priority" for the Spanish government, and the Paris agreement would be "ratified as soon as possible".

She added that on November 15, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy would attend the climate change conference which is being held in the Moroccan city of Marrakech from November 7-18, while highlighting the efforts currently being made in the European Union to fight the problem.

Spain has until now been not ratified the accord, which came into effect on November 5, as it had no effective central government for over 10 months, Xinhua news agency reported.

The situation came to an end in October when Rajoy returned to power as Prime Minister, opening the door for the required legislation to finally be approved.--IANS
