A Spanish court Tuesday suspended charges against Princess Cristina over her links to a corruption case involving her husband, reported Xinhua.

Citing insufficient evidence, the high court in Palma de Mallorca voted 2 to 1 to overturn an earlier judgement of a lower court to call the 47-year-old Pricess for questioning for her involvement in the alleged embezzlement of public funds by her husband Inaki Urdangarin and his former business partner.

The embezzlement case, known as the "Noos case," has greatly contributed to the deepening discontent towards the Spanish royal family. A recent survey gave King Juan Carlos an approval rating of just 42 percent with a disapproval rating of 53 percent - the worst since he came to the throne following the death of General Franco in late 1975.

The investigation centres on whether Urdangarin and his former partner Diego Torres took advantage of their royal connections to funnel some 6 million euros (about $7.7 million) of public funds through the charitable foundation Noos Institute to their private businesses.

Princess Cristina is the first member of the Spanish King's immediate family to be te subject of criminal proceedings.

She could still be called to answer questions should new evidences emerge.
