With a view to promote sustainable entrepreneurship and generate employment, the West Bengal government will be setting up 'Karma Tirtha' - a one-stop shop allowing entrepreneurs to market their products directly to buyers.
"Bengal has tremendous scope in rural businesses, given the abundance of natural resources and the availability of a skilled workforce," Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said here Saturday.
"To strike a synergy between the two and move towards successful and sustainable entrepreneurship, we are about to launch a unique business hub - 'Karma Tirtha'," Banerjee said.
The state government will be providing the requisite infrastructural support including training and finance, allowing individuals, self-help groups, co-operative enterprises, artisans, weavers etc to avail the benefits of the scheme.
"A total of "229 'Karma Tirtha' hubs have already been sanctioned with 44 of them ready to be flagged off in phases from Aug 1 onwards. Our government plans to set up at least one Karma Tirtha in every block of the state within the next year", she added.
