Budget carrier SpiceJet on Sunday launched a direct flight service from the city of the Golden Temple to Dubai.
The flight, which had a traditional flag-off at Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport, will operate on all days except Saturday.
"In line with the aviation tradition to mark key milestones, SpiceJet's Boeing 737NG aircraft deployed in this route was greeted with a grand water cannon salute on its arrival from Dubai," a SpiceJet release said.
"Dubai features amongst our most prominent destinations within our international network. This route has always witnessed enhanced demand and the launch of this flight will provide holiday makers and business travellers alike with more travel options coupled with our superior service quality levels," said SpiceJet chief administrative officer G.P. Gupta.
"We are also the only private Indian carrier to directly connect Amritsar to any international destination," he added.
With the launch of this service, SpiceJet has direct flights to Dubai from eight Indian cities -- Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kochi, Madurai, Amritsar, and Kozhikode with connections from dozens of more cities including Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, the release said.
