The Delhi High Court on Monday asked the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to start the process of relocating its Millennium bus depot built on the Yamuna river bed.

Justice Suresh Kait directed the DTC to take necessary steps to vacate the depot and shift to the land given to it by Delhi Development Authority (DDA) as he posted the next hearing for August 20.

During the hearing, Rajiv Bansal, appearing for the DDA, told the court that three sites - at Rohini, Sarai Kale Khan and Narela - have been handed over to DTC to shift the depot.

The transport corporation had last year told the court that it will vacate the millennium depot site by Oct 31, 2014.

The depot was built on about 50 acres of land at a cost of Rs.60 crore.

In its first stint, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party government had decided to shift the depot from the river bed accepting a demand made in a public interest litigation filed in the high court.
