Three people were killed after storm 'Niklas' wreaked havoc across Germany, authorities said.

One man was killed due to wall collapse in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, while two persons from a road maintenance company died after a tree fell on them in Rhineland-Palatinate state, Xinhua reported on Wednesday citing German media Spiegel Online.

Regional trains were cancelled in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony early on Tuesday. The storm also forced the suspension of long-distance trains in Bavaria.

In Munich, the main hall of the railway station was evacuated due to heavy destruction. Air traffic was halted at Frankfurt airport, affecting a total of 150 planes.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), Niklas was one of the strongest storms in recent years that hit Germany, with winds peaking up to 150 km per hour.

The storm is expected to move on to Poland.
