The NGT on Tuesday directed the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) to submit by Wednesday a detailed report regarding Phase II of the Yamuna river revitalization project "Maily Se Nirmal Yamuna".
A National Green Tribunal (NGT) bench headed by Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar told the officials to apprise the tribunal about the number of drains opening into the river as well as waste dumped into it in Delhi.
The green court also sought information on the number of sewage treatment plants (STPs) proposed to be set up under this phase to treat effluents dumped into the river by drains at Shahdara, Barapulla and other places.
The tribunal had earlier given orders pertaining to Phase I to finalize sites and financial issues between the DJB and the NGMC.
Under Phase I, 14 STPs were to be set up along the Nazafgarh and Delhi Gate drains. Two major STPs under Phase I were proposed to treat about 67 per cent of pollutants flowing into the river.
The tribunal said it will monitor work of the next phase. "We are not talking about 33 per cent pollutants flowing into the river," the bench said.
