Swedish swimmer Sarah Sjostrom set a new world record in the 100m butterfly to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games.
Sjostrom, on Sunday clocked in at 55.48 seconds to break her own world record of 55.64 seconds set at the World Championships held in August 2015 in Kazan, Russia, reports EFE.
She was 98 hundredths quicker than the Canadian Penny Oleksiak who won the silver medal with a time of 56.46 seconds, and 1.15 seconds faster than the American Dana Vollmer who took the bronze medal with a time of 56.63.
