T. M. Krishna to deliver keynote address at Kumaon Litfest

Magsaysay award winner T. M. Krishna will deliver the keynote address at the second edition of the Kumaon Literary Festival (KLF), scheduled to be held from October 11-15.

Claimed to be the first "travelling and retreat" literature festival of the country, this year's KLF will be held at two different locations including Jim's Jungle Retreat in Jim Corbett National Park and Te Aroha in Dhanachuli.

The festival will play host to many known names from the world of literature, publishing, cinema and politics, according to the organisers.

The event will also see many well known names from Pakistan including Mohsin Sayeed, Ameena Saiyid, Asif Farrukhi, Afia Aslam, Ali Akbar Natiq, Asif Noorani among others.

French writer Jean Echenoz and names like Amish Tripathi, Ravi Subramanian, Jerry Pinto, Shinie Antony and Rakhshanda Jalil are going to be the major attractions of the festival.

"The first edition of KLF was an unprecedented success positioning the festival amongst the most popular literature festivals of the country. We aspire to raise the bar further this year," said KLF founder Sumant Batra.

The festival will discuss topics like "Shifting Notions of the Nation State: Will national ideologies dominate global politics in 21st century?", and "Voice From the Well: How is Dalit Literature redefining perceptions and mindsets", among many others.

The audience can also look forward to a debate on "Yours versus my nationalism - Being on the wrong side of the 'patriotism' divide".

Australian filmmaker Yossi Ginsberg is also expected to attend the festival.

Apart from this, speakers like Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Justice A. K. Sikri, Pavan Varma, Shatrughan Sinha, Tarun Vijay, Shahid Siddiqui, Nupur Sharma and more from the world of politics and law are expected to participate.

A biography on film star Rekha, film maker Nasir Hussain, and the book, "The Sea Lies Ahead" by Intezar Husain will also be launched at the event.

The festival, which aims to develop Dhanachuli into a model cultural village, will also see speakers like Ajay Rawat, Anup Sah, Deepak Rawat, Mona Verma and others from Uttarakhand.
