Bitter cold has gripped the Taj city of Agra where night temperature fell to 5.1 degrees Celsius on Monday. The day temperature was however 20.7 degrees.
People were seen wrapped in woollens. Most markets looked deserted in the evening.
Parents have begun demanding early closure of schools for Christmas vacation.
"Children are finding it tough to get ready early in the morning," said Priya, mother of a nursery student.
