Taliban militants on Monday overrun Kham Ab district in Afghanistan's Jawzjan province along the border with Turkmenistan, an official said.
"Taliban militants overrun Kham Ab and the district headquarters is in their control at the moment," Xinhua news agency quoted Governor Ahmad Khan as saying.
The official said the government forces had retreated.
A security personnel in the province said clashes for the control of Kham Ab district was continuing.
The Taliban, which briefly captured about four districts in different provinces in recent months, is yet to comment.
