Tata Chemicals Ltd (TCL) will sharpen its focus on the agro and consumer segments in the years to come, a senior official said here Friday.
"Now we are increasing our consumer portfolio to wellness and nutrition in the food segment and we are looking at agri which actually concentrates on four areas - plant and crop nutrition, seeds and contract manufacturing," executive director and CFO, P. K. Ghose said on the sidelines of launch of book "Salt of the Earth - The Story of Tata Chemicals" commemorating 75 years of TCL.
The company is eyeing to increase the FMCG share to its consolidated earnings.
"In a turnover of about Rs.16,000 crore last year, consumer products would be hardly Rs. 1,000 crore. We want to increase it to Rs.3,500 crore over the next 3 years," he said.
The FMCG business for the company includes salt, pulses, lentils and spices and water purifiers. TCL has a market share in salt in the national organised market at 65 percent.
TCL will be commissioning its 1,000 tonne capacity plant in Perambur in Tamil Nadu within a month where it has invested Rs.50 crore to further its aim with consumer and agro products.

Ghose further said the company will look for acquisitions in the seeds segment in the agri vertical and consumer products as well as look for organic growth.
Although TCL has presence in the seeds category, its presence is marginal in cotton and vegetables seeds segment where acquisitions are likely.
"The other option (for acquisitions) could be in consumer products", he said.
The present capex for the company is between Rs. 350 crore to Rs. 500 crore.
