Tata Motors bagged deals with various police and law enforcement agencies to supply 1,542 Sumo cars, thereby continuing its focus on the defence and security segment.

The company registered a growth of two percent in its total sales in November as compared with the previous year, having sold 41,720 vehicles, including consignments across commercial and passenger segments.

"Sumo was conceived and designed keeping in mind the need for a rugged, comfortable and reliable vehicle that was powerful and versatile, with the ability to do almost everything with ease, including negotiate narrow city roads," said Vernon Noronha, vice president of the defence and government business of the company.

He said these attributes have helped the company become a popular choice with the country's law enforcement agencies.

The company has supplied over a lakh vehicles to the military and paramilitary forces since 1958 and exports its range of specialised defence vehicles to Saarc, Asean and African regions as well. It also has the United Nations in its customer base, providing it with specialised vehicles.

Noronha said the company would commence the deliveries shortly.
