Integrated power company Tata Power on Monday said it has implemented an islanding system in West Bengal's Haldia which will ensure uninterrupted power supply to the town in times of power grid failures.
"The objective of this initiative is to maintain a continuous supply of electricity to the loads in Haldia during a grid failure. Following this implementation, the Tata Power generating units will survive and quick restoration of the grid will be possible by procuring start-up power from the generators," the company said in a statement.
It said that in case of a grid breakdown, the islanding system will automatically isolate itself from the rest of the grid and ensure that generating units continue to function.
This system was developed by the company in consultation with West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company (WBSETCL) and West Bengal State Load Despatch Center (WBSLDC) and approved by Eastern Regional Power Committee (ERPC).
"The system will help us in saving our units during grid disturbance by isolating our units along with a matching load. This will in turn help us to reduce forced outages and help restore the grid after a failure," said Haldia power station chief Abhijit Ain Das.
In the past the company has implemented this scheme in Mumbai and Jamshedpur in Jharkhand.
