For three days, about 45 teachers and principals from different schools turned students and learnt how to enhance the quality of teaching methods at a workshop here.

The three-day workshop, 'Gurkul for Gurus', sponsored by Malabar Golds and Diamond for school teachers and principals ended Saturday. About 45 teachers and principals from Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow and other cities of north India participated.

"The objective of the programme was to familiarize teachers and principals that students are not an embodiment to generate marks or results," said Debashis Chatterjee, director Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode.

Gautam Sarkar, a teacher at Modern School in central Delhi, said: "Giving class four simple mathematics to solve to the teachers and making them evaluate themselves... making us listen to music and recite a poem... the workshop helped me to learn that quality of teaching is more than syllabus and how to shift from teaching to helping student understand the subject."
