Telangana to celebrate Independence Day at Golconda Fort

The Telangana government has decided to celebrate Independence Day celebrations at the historic Golconda Fort.

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao Sunday directed Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma to make arrangements to celebrate the first Independence Day after the formation of Telangana state at the fort.

He asked the chief secretary, director general of police and other higher officials to visit the site and oversee the arrangements.

It is decided to exhibit the tableau on history of Telangana and cultural grandeur of the state, said a statement from the chief minister's office.

The chief minister welcomed suggestions and advices from the intellectuals of Telangana in this regard.

Built during Kakatiya dynasty (1083-1323), the mud fort was expanded and developed into granite fort during the Qutub Shahi kingdom. It served as the capital of Qutub Shahi kingdom till 1590, when the capital was shifted to Hyderabad.

In the united Andhra Pradesh, the main official functions to mark the Independence Day and Republic Day were always held in Parade Grounds in Secunderabad, the twin city of Hyderabad.
