Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Monday appointed the 200-member National Reform Steering Assembly.

The National Reform Steering Assembly includes 80 military officers and 120 civilians, according to a royal gazette issued with a list of all the assembly members.

The assembly is obliged to compile and review opinions and guidelines pertaining to the planned reforms of the country, Xinhua news agency reported.

Its term will depend on the new constitution.

Prayut earlier said that the nationwide election might be held by mid-2017.

Meanwhile, former parliament president Mechai Ruchupan accepted a call by the prime minister to head a new constitution drafting committee, following the scuttling of a charter by an already- dissolved National Reform Assembly last month.
