There are many ways to suppress the judiciary, if someone really decides to do it, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Monday, while making it clear that he was not suggesting that such steps should be taken.

"If you have to suppress judiciary, there are many other ways... I am not saying you should do it. If someone really decides to do it, he has many ways," he said in the state assembly during a discussion on a constitutional amendment pertaining to the judicial accountability bill.

The chief minister also said that in Russia, the KGB - one of the main intelligence agencies in the country - was used to suppress the judiciary.

"In Russia, KGB was used. Does anyone think that in India, those who want to do it, haven't done it," Parrikar said.

Calling for judicial accountability, the chief minister questioned as to why no action had been taken in the two cases where judges had been accused of molestation.

"There were two molestation cases. If (the cases) were against me or you, there would have been clamour for filing an FIR. What happened to the two cases... Why have FIRs not been filed... Accountability is for everyone," Parrikar said.
