Kerala's police chief T.P. Senkumar said on Friday that threats made to police officers will be probed.

"Threats to police officials from political parties have always been there, and it is nothing new," the director general of police told a news conference.

"The latest threats that have been reported will be probed, and the law will be applied," Senkumar said.

On Friday, a BJP leader, V.V. Rajesh, warned that the post retirement life of police officials "who protect CPI-M activists engaged in political violence" would be tough.

Senkumar also said that police officials "are also human beings", after some senior colleagues took to the social media to vent their frustration after they were transferred.

"Police officials are also human beings. It's quite natural that at times they vent their emotions, like other people," he said.

"That's what has happened. All such posts that were put out were withdrawn also," he said.

The police chief also said that violence in the northern districts of Kerala between activists of the Communist Party of India-Marxist and those of the BJP and RSS had been effectively contained.
