Three people, two of them women, have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a traffic sergeant when their car was stopped for checking, police said on Sunday.
The incident took place at around 12 midnight near the Park Street-Camac Street crossing.
According to police, Adhiraj Mukherjee and his wife allegedly stopped Sandip Roy, the sergeant on duty, from running a routine check on their car and also tried to manhandle him.
"They were upset with the checking and protested aggressively. They also pushed and abused the sergeant on duty and tore off the name plate from his uniform," police said.
Police from south traffic guard rushed to the spot and arrested the three accused.
"Adhiraj, who was driving, was under the influence of alcohol," police added.
