Three undergraduate business management students on way to taking an exam were killed when their speeding car skidded and flew off a 40-feet-high flyover in west Delhi on Monday, police said.

Four of their friends in the Honda City car were critically injured.

The dead -- Rajat, Sanchit, and Ritu -- and the injured -- Pranav, Rishab, Raja, and Garima -- were first-year students of Bachelor's in Business Administration course in an institute in Rohini locality in north Delhi.

They were on way to the Indraprastha College in Narela to sit for their second semester examination when the accident occurred around 8.45 a.m.

The seven students, in the age group of 18-22, had started from Rajat's Punjabi Bagh house in his Honda City car. Rajat was behind the wheel when he lost control of the vehicle on the Punjabi Bagh flyover and the car crashed through the guard railings and fell on the railway track below.

Locals helped police personnel to extricate the unconscious students out from the badly damaged car.

While Sanchit and Ritu died on the spot, Rajat succumbed to injuries at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

The injured students suffered multiple fractures in their heads and chests and are battling for their lives in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, police said.

Ritu's father Malkhan Singh said she had studied till 4 a.m. for her examination on Monday.

"She told us in the morning that she will hire an app-based cab or carpool with her friends to reach the examination centre. I did not know she was to go by classmate Rajat's car. Had I been aware that they were to drive down to the examination centre, I would never have allowed her to go," Malkhan Singh, a resident of Baldev Nagar in west Delhi, said.

Sanchit's father Raj Kumar, a clerk at the Lady Harding Hospital, said: "He was very happy when he left home early in the morning. He was my only son after a daughter; I have lost everything."
