Three men were arrested on charges of involvement in gunrunning and 13 illegal firearms seized from them, police said on Tuesday. Three policemen were injured earlier when the accused tried to bulldoze through a police road-block.
Thirteen sophisticated semi-automatic pistols, 16 magazines, 100 cartridges and a Swift car were seized from accused Harender Singh, 24, his brother Pushpender Singh, 29, and Mohit Sharma 30, said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell.
All three hail from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh.
On Sunday, police laid a trap near Barapulla flyover in south Delhi around 5 p.m. on a tip-off that Harender will be delivering an arms consignment near J.L.N. Stadium.
When the car the accused were travelling in was hailed to stop, they tried to crash through the barricades but were arrested.
Yadav said the accused told police they had purchased the firearms from Ishwar Sardar of Manawar in Madhya Pradesh.
