Three people including a hospital owner and two attendants were detained in West Bengal's Burdwan district for alleged involvement in child trafficking, police said on Monday.
Rawsana Begam, an attendant of Life nursing home in Burdwan, was handed over to police by the locals on Sunday evening for allegedly trying to sell a newborn baby to a child-less couple for Rs 10,000.
"She brought a baby girl to us and asked to pay Rs 10,000 for her custody. However, We did not agree to pay any money," said the housewife who was asked to keep the baby.
Officers of Burdwan police station later arrested the owner of the nursing home and another attendant for being involved in the trafficking.
"Sadhan Kumar Ghatak, the owner of Life nursing home and Asha Mitra, an attendent, were detained along with Rawsana, based on the the complains of child trafficking. We are investigating the matter," said Additional Superintendent of Police Dyutiman Bhattacharya.
