At least three people were killed in a bomb blast that rocked a prison in southern Afghanistan, a police official said Sunday.
"Taliban militants sent a child with an explosive device inside a prison in Qalat, capital of the Zabul province in an attempt to set free the detainees but the conspiracy was foiled though three people, including the child, were killed and two others were injured," provincial police chief Rogh Lewanai told Xinhua.
He said the incident occurred around 4.15 p.m. No detainees were able to escape.
