Subedar Kanwar Pal Singh, a Junior Commissioned Officer in the Indian Army, killed in the recent militia attack in South Sudan, hailed from Bhondsi village in Gurgaon, police said Friday.

Militia groups targeted and killed three soldiers from India Thursday.

Bhondsi village here is some seven km from the Gurgaon city.

"The martyr was part of a United Nations peacekeeping force. His body would be brought here Sunday for cremation," Varun Dahiya, chief of Bhondsi police station, told IANS.

Dahiya said family members informed the soldier was with the peacekeeping force for the past eight months and was to come home early January.

The three Indians were killed when about 2,000 rebels stormed the United Nations Mission in South Sudan base at Akobo in South Sudan's troubled Jonglei state, the second such incident in eight months in which Indian soldiers have died in the world's newest country.
