Three women labourers were mowed down by a long-distance train on Saturday while they were crossing the tracks on the Western Railway here, police said.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) A.P. Karad, the accident occurred at around 12.30 p.m., when the victims had completed their work and were proceeding from Goregaon station to Malad in north-west Mumbai.
As they were crossing the tracks, there was some confusion as trains were suddenly coming and going on the other tracks and a holiday special train from Bandra Terminus to Indore knocked them down.
The three victims were killed instantly while a fourth woman was critically injured and was shifted to a hospital.
The identity of the deceased, who were part of a railway maintenance team, was not immediately known.
